LBMT is looking for committed music directors, choreographers, stage managers, technical directors, producers, and supervisors to join the production teams of our shows. Additional details about the shows can be found in the posters below and also on our Season Seven webpage. Positions and Responsibilities
Artistic Director Responsibilities
Please Note: The Artistic Director positions for all season seven shows have been filled.
- Responsible for all artistic decisions related to the production, except those increasing costs beyond budgets.
- Expected to block all scenes and run blocking rehearsals and general rehearsals.
- Delegates most musical decisions to the Musical Director, most choreographic decisions to the Choreographer, and most technical production matters to the Technical Director, while still retaining responsibility for the overall artistic quality and consistency of the production. May overrule any designated decisions when necessary to this end.
- Develops draft rehearsal schedule prior to auditions; updated and maintained after auditions by the producer.
- Sets audition dates, rehearsal dates, etc., in conjunction with Musical Director, Choreographer, and Producer
- Organizes auditions; responsible for casting decisions subject to approval of Board or participating Board Representative; may participate in selection of orchestra members by Musical Director and/or technical crew members by Technical Director.
- May designate Assistant Directors and delegate any portion of these responsibilities as appropriate
Choreographer Responsibilities
Please Note: The choreographer positions for One Small Misstep and Bonnie & Clyde have been filled.
- Develops ideas and creates and develops routines to produce a well-polished performance.
- Represents the Artistic Director on all choreographic matters and decisions for the production, including running choreography rehearsals, selecting numbers and running choreography portions of auditions, and assisting the director with casting decisions.
- Discusses ideas and plans with producers, costume designers, and musical and artistic directors.
- Auditions, teaches, and rehearses dancers.
- May designate Assistant Choreographers and delegate any portion of these responsibilities as appropriate.
Music Director Responsibilities
Please Note: The music director positions for all season seven shows have been filled.
- Oversees all musical aspects of the show.
- Represents the Artistic Director on all musical matters and decisions for the production, including running vocal and band rehearsals, selecting songs and running the musical portions of auditions, assisting the director with casting decisions, and working with technical crew on sound, microphones, balance, etc.
- Accompanies auditions.
- Helps recruit musicians and band members for the show.
- Runs music rehearsals as director and accompanist (assign parts, teach music, provide harmony splits…).
- Prepares and conducts the band during the show run.
- May designate Assistant Musical Directors and delegate any portion of these responsibilities as appropriate.
Stage Manager Responsibilities
Please Note: The Stage Manager position for Bonnie & Clyde has been filled.
- Creates and sets-up rehearsal schedules.
- Manages furniture and props.
- Arranges costume and wig fittings.
- Liaises with all production team members and collates information.
- Supervises the ‘set-up’ and ‘strike’ (when the set, lighting and sound are installed and removed from the space).
- Creates a prompt script compiled with notes on Actors’ cues and requirements for props, lighting and sound.
- Makes alterations to the set and props between scene changes.
- Controls the sound and set lighting cues during the run of the show and/or cues the lighting and sound technicians.
- Manages the backstage and onstage area during performances.
- Calls actors for rehearsals and performances.
- Maintains props, furniture and set during the run.
Technical Director Responsibilities
Please Note: The Lighting Designer position for One Small Misstep has been filled.
- Surveys performance space for technical production elements/capabilities and serves as a consultant to production staff on technical issues.
- Works with set designer on technical construction and implementation aspects of scenery.
- Obtains and sets up any technical theatre elements (pyrotechnics, fog machine, etc.) of the production outside of those maintained by the production house. Any expenditures must be coordinated with producer.
- Develops lighting design based on set design and survey of production space lighting capabilities. May be deferred in whole or in part to in-house lighting designer.
- Works with stage manager to ensure lighting design is implemented correctly.
- Develops sound design based on musical and theatrical demands of production and current LBMT sound reinforcement capability. May be deferred in whole or in part to in-house sound designer.
- Coordinates deployment and use of LBMT owned and/or rented sound reinforcement equipment. May be deferred in whole or in part to other production participant(s) or in-house audio personnel.
Producer Responsibilities
Please Note: The Producer position for One Small Misstep has been filled.
- Develops budget (approval by board) for entire production, including at least the following categories: performance fees, theater rent, theater labor, publicity, programs, music, costumes, set construction supplies and construction expenses, fundraising expenses.
- Secures rights to production selected by board of directors and ensures all involved in production are made aware of those rights.
- Develops and maintains overall production schedules.
- Arranges rehearsal space, audition space, production meetings.
- May designate Assistant Producers and delegate any portion of these responsibilities as appropriate.
- Secures performance space for production.
Prop Designer Responsibilities
Please Note: The Props Designer positions for One Small Misstep and Bonnie & Clyde have been filled.
- Conceptualizes and customizes props needed in collaboration with the artistic director, set designer, and costume designer.
- Determines prop placement and use for performance and maintains records of prop usage.
- Manages budget for props and craft materials for production.
- Manages purchase, loan or production of props.
- Manages transport and storage of props.
- Repairs and maintains props throughout the duration of the production.
Set Designer Responsibilities
Please Note: The Set Designer positions for One Small Misstep and Bonnie & Clyde have been filled.
- Understands scripts and production specifications and collaborates with the director to design the layout and look of the set.
- Delegates tasks, develops time schedules, and orders required materials for the set.
- Provides cost estimates and negotiates with vendors to secure the best deals.
- Inspects stage entrances and exits to ensure the set is positioned correctly, and also performs quality assurance checks on all aspects of the set.
- Briefs crew and actors on set safety and also explains how the set operates.
Costume Designer Responsibilities
Please Note: The Costume Designer position for One Small Misstep has been filled.
- Meets with producers and directors to ideate and define wardrobe requirements.
- Prepares initial sketches, costume research, and wardrobe concepts for presentation.
- Coordinates the design, rental, and construction of garments.
- Participates in wardrobe fittings and production dress rehearsals.
- Performs fittings, adjustments, and final touches on set.
- Manages the project timelines, fitting schedules, and budgets.
Makeup and Hair Designer Responsibilities
Please Note: The Makeup and Hair Designer positions for One Small Misstep and Bonnie & Clyde have been filled.
- Enhances facial aesthetics through makeup.
- Consults with the artistic director and creates custom looks based on their specifications.
- Determines which materials and colours are the most suitable.
- Works with costume designers, set designers, and stylists to ensure consistency.
Community Supervisor
Please Note: The Community Supervisor position for Bonnie & Clyde has been filled.
- Ensures that LBMT’s values of inclusion, equity, and respect are being implemented within the show’s rehearsals and processes.
- Organizes cast outings, socials, and events with the LBMT Board’s Community Manager.
- Organizes contests and incentives for the show’s cast members in regards to promotion and ticket sales.
Publicity Supervisor
Please Note: The Publicity Supervisor position for One Small Misstep has been filled.
- Takes rehearsal photographs and videos to be used in promotions.
- Aids in preparing socials media posts for all of LBMT’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
- Coordinates publicity opportunities with local media, including radio stations, television stations, online forums, and community groups.
