Lost Baggage Musical Theatre

At LBMT, we believe that the theatre is for everyone. Our mandate is to diversify musical theatre performance in Ottawa and bring more musical theatre to the city’s east-end. We strive to create rehearsal and performance spaces that allow for individuals to freely create and participate in without fear of scrutiny or harassment.

When you come to a Lost Baggage production, expect to leave the burdens of everyday life at the door and escape for a while. Lose your baggage at Lost Baggage.

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Scott Martin

“They sing – they dance – they die!” A hotel ballroom, 1998, and six voluptuous B-movie “Scream Queens” revive their fading acting careers by presenting a musical revue for their fans at a science fiction and horror film convention. From young newbie to seasoned grand dame, the Queens strut their stuff in song and dance to prove “I Got All of the Talent I Need.” For 90 minutes of hilarious musical mayhem, they take the audience into the world of no-budget movies with awful scripts, fake monsters and gooey “Special FX.” They even involve the audience in a screaming contest and zombie talent search. As each Queen reveals her personal story, we share their hopes and dreams, from Tonya’s love of her idol “Fay Wray” to Alexis’ advice that “Everybody Starts at the Bottom” to DeeDee’s secrets of Scream Queen longevity: “Don’t Open That Door.” British screen veteran Nadine savors her joy of being “Still In Demand” while Bianca celebrates the lifetime achievements of “Roger Corman” and Richelle laments her own elusive “Happy Endings.” They also screen original clips from their direct-to-video “scary movie” spoofs such as “Revenge of the Psycho Bimbos” and “Malibu Vampire Vixens,” all hoping to attract the attention of a popular young horror film director lurking in the audience.

Performance Development Program

Take-Off is LBMT’s new educational program aimed at bringing local musical theatre performers to the next level. Twelve participants will be chosen to partake in weekly private lessons in musical theatre vocal performance and weekly group workshops and masterclasses in a variety of related subjects, such as acting, dance, audition etiquette, and blocking techniques. At the conclusion of the program, these artists will have the opportunity to showcase their development through a solo performance of a musical theatre song and participation in a group musical performance at Arts Court Theatre.

Workshops, master classes, and rehearsals for the final group performance will take place on Saturdays at Riverview School of Music (480 Avalon Place) for 8 weeks from October 15 – December 3. Weekly one-on-one hour-long private lessons will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time between the vocal instructor and participant.
